GIANT CREATIONS
Like a hibernating bear... the realizations of an impending Spring in early February of 2004 stirred the creative juices of Paul, the intrepid eight year old. Because there is no adult supervision at The Farm creativity can and often does get completely out of hand. "Let's build a G-I-A-N-T rocking chair at the head of the driveway", announced Paul one day between snow flakes... "with a massive swing", chimed in Cheri, the impatient four year old... and our giant kid would want ABC blocks to play with, they both thought in unison.

Barn Wood. Following in short order came the massive swing and ABC blocks.. four feet high.
2004 will always be remembered as the year when creativity ran amuck at The Farm... Lake Cheri with covered bridge and bubbling water features, completed, Noah's Ark perched on the lake's edge, under construction, an old late 1800's store building from South Tunnel, TN, acquired, a continuing search for a small one room church building to dismantle and restore at The Farm, and plans for a woods full of interconnected tree houses.
All the folks on The Farm at Nostalgiaville enjoy sharing the adventure and tranquility we are creating, so we erected a "Welcome Sign" near the driveway directed at all potential visitors, asking them to please call us for an appointment.

LAKE CHERI & COVERED BRIDGE

Lake Cheri, named after Paul's wife, the four year old, is one of the newest creations at The Farm. Before the Lake was built, the spot was a field with rolling hills, and a small natural spring, lined with trees.  By March of 2004, it was time to break ground and we summoned the BIG equipment to work on the new project.

The first step was to clear the site of the lake of trees and bushes, being very careful to preserve other of natures creations.

While the clearing was progressing, the Lake Cheri's Covered Bridge construction began.  The use of hand hewn logs and material salvaged from old barns gave the covered bridge a "look from the past"... and one can imagine horse & buggy and covered wagons bouncing noisily across the plank floor

The bad side meant, more equipment , to drill through it. The good side, was that we could save the rocks to build Water Features around the lake.
After pounding through the sheet of rock, it was smooth sailing.   In April of 2004, Lake Cheri was completed, but empty and we were waiting for Mother Nature to do her thing to fill the lake.

The wait was short with Mother Nature on our side, when she let fly the rain for about four straight days.  Lake Cheri was so full it was busting at the seams, and running over.

Lake Cheri's first visitors were a few happy-go-lucky frogs... that were mothers-to-be.  Needless to say, Lake Cheri soon was full of frogs. There were tadpoles all along the Lake's shores. The tadpoles of course made, the anything, but ordinary, 4 year old very happy.

FOUNTAINS, MUMS, & DOCK

Saving the rocks, while digging Lake Cheri made the building of the water features a snap.   First came the Spillway Cascade, which provides a comforting and relaxing sound for passer-byes, not to mention a beautiful view.  This would add another "Magic Venue" to The Farm

Some days the water just trickles down the rocks,  but after a rain the water flows in a torrent. The water moves from the Spillway Cascade into the Pond beside the drive way and then along the Barn to plunge over a high falls into Carr Creek.

The Fountain beside Noah's ark was the next project..  Water is pumped to the Fountain from Carr Creek, out of the top, down two tiers of rocks, and into Lake Cheri.

Around Lake Cheri & the fountain,  beautiful mums have been planted.

And finally, no lake is complete without a dock complete with canoe.  The dock was completed in September of 2004.
