PAINTED LABEL SODA BOTTLES

SIZE  (size)- of BOTTLE- Volume in ounces.  If the bottle does not contain even ounces, a "+" follows the size.  A "?" means that the volume is undetermined from markings on the bottle.

This list is designed to accomplish all four needs.  The area of communications between collectors is covered by the use of Interactive Book Numbers (V/M#).  Only one V/M# is ever assigned to a cataloged item, and once assigned, it will never be changed. The number can be used to tag collection items and to make communication with other collectors easier.

All new items submitted by collectors to VIRTUAL MUSEUM will be assigned an V/M# and included in the next book update with the appropriate collector number.

DESCRIPTION  (description)- Word Description of Bottle Label.
        1. Portions in Quotes (") are actually written on bottle.      

        2. (M)= Middle of Bottle, (N)= Neck of Bottle, (B)= Base or Lower Portion of Bottle, (Btm)= Base or Bottom of Bottle  

        3. P= Picture on Bottle Label                                   

        4. (C/C/B)= Distributed by COCA-COLA Bottling Co.              

           (D/P/B)= Distributed by DR PEPPER Bottling Co.              

           (N/B/C)= Distributed by NEHI Bottling Co.                   

           (P/C/B)= Distributed by PEPSI-COLA Bottling Co.             

           (R/C/B)= Distributed by ROYAL CROWN Bottling Co.            

           (S/U/B)= Distributed by 7UP Bottling Co.                    

        5. SAME= The same as the bottle above + a noted difference in size, color, etc.

        6. "CITY NAME" when in quotes at the beginning of the description represents the bottler city found on the label or on the bottom of 
        the  bottle.

GENERATIONS- A Generation is defined as an alteration of the label resulting in a noticeable change among bottles of the same brand.  The following differences in a bottle label WILL result in a GENERATION CHANGE among bottles of the same brand: 

1. GRAPHICS- A major change in the wording or graphics on the label WILL cause a generation change.

2. SIZE- Different sizes (Volume in Ounces or ML) WILL cause a  generation change. 

3. BOTTLE COLOR- Glass color differences WILL create a generation change.        

4. LABEL COLOR- A color change in the label WILL cause a generation change.                                                                       

5. CITY/STATE- Different City/State combinations of the same generation WILL be added to the data base.

1. DATES- Bottles with the same label but different dates WILL NOT result in a generation change.

2. GRAPHICS- Graphics on the back side opposite the main label WILL NOT be considered for a generation change.

Bottles are listed alphabetically by BRAND NAME.                    

GENERATIONS within BRAND NAMES  are organized in the following order:
(1) Older Bottles are listed first, (2) Label colors are grouped together, (3) Where cities are listed, alphabetical order is first assigned to states, and then cities within the states.
